HISTORY will be made tonight, when the first circus “made by Bahamians, produced by Bahamians in a Bahamian theatre, for the Bahamians,” will debut onstage at the Wyndham Nassau Resort’s Rainforest Theatre.
“It’s been several years in the making,” said Jarvis Grant, an acrobat instructor who has been training several young persons for Emanji-a native big top experience which will be complimented with onstage scenic elements, and Bahamian ‘rake and scrape’ and Hip hop music.
A little bit of each of these genres will be displayed during the show’s run -April 21, 22, and 23.
To give the circus a special Bahamian flavour, Mr Grant has found aspects of Bahamian values and culture and injected them into the script, along with the acrobatic skills that he’s learned over the years from his travels all over the world.
His experience with the circus takes him back to the Universal Soul Circus and Cirque du soleil.
Now into his latter years, Mr Grant has taken the backseat, and allowed his apprentices to take the forefront in their first ever production.
“I’ve been giving the gift to other kids, and finally I just got off my butt and said ‘let me put a show together,’ and now there’s singers and dancers in the show,” said Mr Grant.Continue reading here….
