.
This matter is far more serious than we originally thought, as it seems that 9 of the Bahamian Straw Market Vendors arrested over the weekend in the JFK Airport were charged yesterday with ‘Trafficking Counterfeit Goods and Conspiracy” in a United States Federal court. Sources confirm that the trafficking charge is in fact a felony offense that carries up to 20 years imprisonment if convicted O_o
The Nassau Guardian reports:
Immigration and Customs Enforcement(ICE)Spokesperson Khaalid Walls confirmed that the women are in custody. He added that bail is pending.
The vendors were arraigned yesterday afternoon in Manhattan, New York.
When contacted yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Brent Symonette said he was informed by a vendor that the women were charged in court.
However, he said he could not provide details at the time as he was unable to reach the Bahamian consulate in New York.
The women were taken into custody by the United States Customs and Border Control Protection(CBP)â after they had already checked in for their Jet Blue flight on Saturday. They were allegedly in possession of suitcases filled with counterfeit bags and other goods including jewelry.
DAMN!!!
