We weren’t about to write about this story [you know...pageants being as sensitive as politics--if not more; in the Bahamas] However, being intrigued at the news of the new Miss Bahamas Universe 2011–Ms. Anastagia Pierre being as big a story as the Osama Bin Laden death, this issue has to be touched O_o
.
In all honesty, having being tipped off on the story from a pageant insider back in 2009, and knowing fully well the background on the reigning Miss Bahamas Universe as Miss Florida USA 2009/
Miss US Earth Water 2009
/Miss Florida Teen USA 2004/
Junior Orange Bowl Queen 2002
And with Haitians stepping behind the new winner as their own:
University sophomore cheerleader Anastasia Pierre of Plantation Florida, became the first black person to have won the Miss Florida USA title. Pierre, who is Haitian-American, beats 48 contestants
.
A native of South Florida with Haitian roots, Anastasia is a graduate of the Sagemont School in Weston, FL and currently attends Nova Southeastern University. Anastagia entered her very first pageant at age 5 and fell in love with the industry. In 2004, she vied for and won the coveted title of Miss Florida Teen USA. On July 12th 2008, Anastasia captured the title of Miss Florida USA making her the first African American woman to represent Florida at both Miss Teen USA and Miss USA. [Source]
We want to ask…what say you about the controversy? Should we consider the feelings of those Bahamian born ladies who worked so hard to represent their country proudly. OR Should they take it all in stride as winning is basically the main objective?
